HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT MILK BATH EXPERIENCE

Everything You Need To Know

I love the maternity milk bath trend because it makes women and motherhood look so elegant and radiant. The flower colors pop so well against the white milk. This aspect of the maternity session has elements of boudoir, but can be set up as modest as the mother chooses.

Below I have laid out the tips and tricks to getting beautiful milk bath photos.

What you will need:

A tub (Preferably a white one next to natural light)

2 Gallons of milk (I think I've used 2%)

Sharp Scissors

Flowers

A smaller white fabric (you'll see what I mean)

Towels

What kind of blooms should I get?

The bigger the blooms the better! I have personally loved using Peonies and Roses. Make sure that if you use roses to remove the thorns before putting the them in the bath. As you can see, I used Eucalyptus but that did not show up as well. However, it acted as a spacer between the larger blooms so the flowers didn't look crowded. Baby's Breath is also a nice touch but should be the last blooms you add the bath. Other big blooms you could use include Chrysanthemums, Dahlias, Ranunculus, Gerbera Daisies, Transvaal Daisies, Damask Rose, and Garden Roses.

The day before

You'll need to purchase the milk and the flowers. Place the flowers in a bucket of water. Don't cut them yet. Have clean towels prepared and your scissors packed.

Prep (Day of)

Give yourself about 20 minutes to do this whole process. If you're taking other maternity photos and don't need dad for a bit, you could ask him to start cutting the blooms (leave about 1/2in of stem on the bloom) and running the water. Water should be at a safe temperature. I always ask mom what she prefers. About 5 min before mom gets in the tub, pour the milk into the tub. Help mom get into the tub and then place the blooms around her.

During the Shoot

This is a great time to help mamma relax. Help her to admire her bump and the blooms around her. Encourage her to take deep breaths and remind her how radiant she is. Maybe play some of her favorite tunes if you've got a speaker available.

After you've got enough photos of mom in whatever lingerie outfit or bralette she's wearing, grab the white cloth and drape it over her top to grab some photos. Sometimes moms want to share these photos, but would like a more modest option for social media. If you don't have a boudoir account this option allows you to share the images on your platform without making it boudoir.

Clean Up

Make sure you leave about 15min for momma to get out of the tub and change. You'll want to clean up during this time too and leave no trace of the photoshoot.

Enjoy the editing process!

I personally LOVE editing these photos because I can just play with the vibrancy of the colors. I hope this post was helpful for you and spurs creativity as you create your session experience. I would to see the images you capture and how you structure your little water garden.
